The Tasmania Report

TCCI Launches Tasmania Report

Saul Eslake delivered a comprehensive review of Tasmania in three locations around the state today.  Breakfast in Hobart, lunch in Launceston and dinner in Ulverstone.

Over 80 people were at Ulverstone to view and hear the results of his comprehensive survey.

It turns out we arent doing too bad in a lot of areas -  things have turned around for us in the last two years but education is letting us down as our retention rate is the worst in the country.  We must aim to get more of our young people going on from Year 10 to Year 12 and hopefully onto university after that.

Visitor numbers up!

6% growth last year, 7% this year -  the numbers are looking good for Tassy.  The latest statistics from Tourism Tasmania paint a rosy picture and the north west coast is the jewel in the crown with a 20% increase.

Whisky Master Class

What a great way to start the day – a shot of the best-selling single malt whisky in the world “from our own backyard” at Hellyer Road Distillery.

Thanks to Mark Littler; General Manager of Betta Milk and Hellyer Distillery for his whisky master class - it made for a very enjoyable breakfast session. Thanks to President Peter Holm for being such a willing volunteer!

What a wonderful success story – it just shows what is possible with a good idea and a ton of passion!

Farewell Phil McCulloch

Our beloved Secretary Treasurer Phil McCulloch has been promoted and is moving to Launceston to manage radio stations LAFM, Chilli FM, 7SD and Chilli North East.  After just a bit over three years at 7BU SeaFM Phil proved to be a great manager so got the "tap on the shoulder" by the owners of Grant Broadcasters Network.

We thank Phil for his great service to the chamber in the last couple of years as he has juggled chamber business with radio stations, umpiring and a family all very successfully.

We wish Phil all the best for a bright future.
